The Sports Bra

I have worked on sports bras for the past 8 years on all levels of support, functionality and performance needs. From Yoga and low support needs, to Ultra Marathons, every bra needs to have a different look, feel and insight. I have gained valuable resources from some of the best in the industry. From talking with some of the women that designed the first ever Sports Bra, to innovative leaders in Bras for the future. Here are a few concepts I have created over the past few years on styles that are close to my heart as a runner, yogi and most importantly as a woman.

Behind the Scenes

Each concept below was a starting point with a perspective on support, fit, feel and the intensity or type of workout that women do. Take a look at the different ways I focused on innovating from the internal build and where my ideas started from and how they evolved.

Engineered Support

Focusing on new ways of knitting to provide zoned support within bras.

Ventilation

Focusing on a new ideas in design for ventilation - being truly breathable from the inside out.

High Support

Evolving the fit and evolution of high level support zoned cups.

3D Modeling and Consumer Feedback

During the process - it is vital we include women who can give us their thoughts and feedback around any bra. this all starts from consumer experience and the words they relate to us that are important. This is an incredibly useful tool when focusing on design aesthetic and technical performance. Using also 3D tools, I can map out how designs would fit, feel and even look in to material strain mapping on the body for performance.

Ideas and Insights

Ideating

At the beginning of building a bra, there are key elements to focus on (depending on support level and purpose). I always focus on key areas which include materials and executions (E.G. engineered knit mapping and zoned materials), adjustability and closures, details such as straps, shape and design of front and back, chest band, storage and internal build such as pads. All these elements are vital when targeting insights in to support levels in bras.

Test and Fit

One of the biggest priorities in bras is test, test, test. We ensure all rounds of testing allow us to ensure we hear clear feedback and adapt designs to capture areas, materials or details that are not working and areas that work really well. We go through vigorous testing and want to ensure the best in execution and fit for the level of support we want to offer.

Campaigns

Below are some of the concept bras I have worked on over the the past to showcase women of all sizes and levels of support needed for their sport.
