NYC Calling All Creators
I was asked to join the 1st Generation of 10 designers across Creation Centres Tokyo, China, USA and Germany within Adidas to participate in a rotation at the Brooklyn Farm. This comprised of exploring the future of sport and design and to fully immerse myself in the culture of sport and innovation here in Brooklyn, New York.
This experience showed myself my creative capabilities and how to create with agility and without limits within a city like New York. Experiences came in the purest forms, such as watching the New York Marathon and Basketball games at The Garden, to reaching out to other experts in evolving industries in Paris and Amsterdam, and also attending lectures at Parsons School of Design.
It also allowed me to seek creative outlets through not only apparel design, but also my background in surface textile design and evolving this in to footwear concepts and beyond.
Behind The Scenes
Creating methods of make and finding new recipes to make new materials.
Working on new machines such as leather footwear sewing machines showed me how to change the way I was using materials for their end use. This transcends across footwear and into other products.
I truly love making samples and taking time to build patterns and build garments is still one of my favorite ways to explore each collection.
Working on footwear was a completely new experience that faces new experiences and methods of make.
Creating resins and finding ways to wrap this in around the shoe allowed me to explore mapping footwear through materials and exploring midsole, outsole and upper concepts.
Building different silhouettes to inform different needs through footwear concepts was a great way to open my mind for how concepts work for all product design.
